My name is Tia and I'm here to tell you the honest truth about roofing. I came into this business early in 2009 and from the minute I walked through the gate, I started to learn what construction and roofing is all about. Roofman, Inc. saved my life and now my job is to help answer any questions you have about roofing. You can email questions to tia@roofmaninc.com and I'll make sure to post your questions here on this page!
Hi Joe, I'm glad you asked about the metal roof. I have first hand experience with this one! I have a custom designed doghouse with a beautiful metal roof. It has great insulation beneath the metal which keeps the temperatures regulated better both in winter and summer and I'm always dry, even when we have those strong rains. Check out this picture and let me know what you think. Oh yeah, and my master designed and built it for me. I have bench seating inside on two sides where I can lay and look out the porthole windows. I really like the wide overhang so I have shady spots even in the middle of the day.
Dear Amy,
You bet roofing is hard work! I watch the Roofman crews get all set up, load the trucks and head out to start their days by six o'clock in the morning. And then sometimes they come back in the middle of the day to get more supplies and go out again and don't get back until after six o'clock at night. They're usually pretty hot and tired but they make sure to put everything away so I can't get into any of the roofing materials and get hurt. I keep my eyes open and wait for them to come back the next day and start all over again. So yes, I am very serious because I have to protect all the tools and supplies until they're back in the morning but, I love my job! Although, I do get to relax a little bit when I'm waiting for them. See?
Hey Benny,
Wow, I know I love to ride in the truck too! My guys take me everywhere when they can. One of my favorite place to go is Tiki 13 and get a side order of bacon to share with my neighbors at the charter bus company next door to Roofman. We only get a couple of little bites but that smell is the best thing in the whole world! They're really good dogs too and we swap stories every day. But, back to being health conscious...I have to give credit to my favorite veterinarian.
Dr. Tarplee of Cypress Animal Hospital.
He is the best guy, next to my master, in the whole world. You can have your master make an appointment and drive you up to his beautiful office in Tequesta. Don't tell him about the BACON! Dr. T always makes sure he tells everyone about proper nutrition for all the animals, and he's kept me on the straight and narrow. He makes sure I get reminders about having all my shots and then has everyone be really nice to me when I go into the office. A few months ago I had a problem with my back leg and Dr. T was very thorough and did blood work, X-rays, cultured the spot on my leg and then gave me just the right medicine so I could get better. I have to be in top form to keep up with my guys. Diet and exercise is a dog's best friend, take my advice Benny, go for a run and get some grain-free and by-product free kibble like
Orijen or Blue Buffalo. You'll be back to chasing that leaf-blower in no time!
Hi Anna,
I have to admit that just like my master, I'm a work-a-holic. I try to have a zen moment here and there but I have to keep a sharp lookout for that man in the blue uniform. You know the one who drives on the wrong side of his truck, bringing small pieces of paper to the door every day? So, no, I don't really ever get a chance to get away except Sunday when that man stays away. Then sometimes, my favorite friend, Manny, gives me a royal spa treatment right here at the shop. You can see in the picture that I'm still on full alert while getting a luxurious bubble bath with top of the line Adams flea & tick shampoo. I feel so refreshed that I might as well have been away in the Hamptons for a week. The truth is, when you're a Type-A personality like me, you just have to work with it. So I hope you find a great place to take your puppies but I'll bet they'd be just as happy if you'd take them out back and splash around with them in that perfectly manicured golf green lawn.
Dear Ann,
Thank you for asking! Seeing as you said you're from the northeast, I'm going to assume you're from a place where historical restoration and aesthetics are strong factors in roofing material selection. Copper roofs are simply beautiful.
All that detailed, painstaking workmanship used to come with a very steep price tag but, over the years, some companies have developed pre-fabricated panels that are much easier to work with; enabling do it yourself homeowners to actually consider installing their own roofs.
However, if you really have NO experience, it would be best to leave it to the professionals.
In short, a copper roof that used to be a hand-crafted, very expensive, work of art, has now been modified into a mainstream product much more affordable and less intimidating to consider in your building plan. Here is a link to one of the companies, Specialty Copper Roofing, located in Pennsylvania. Check them out and see for yourself!
